Birds of a Feather

Welcome to crafting hour (as my husband so lovingly called it). I’m finally getting busy working on some decorations/crafts for the “Rainbow Owl” shower scheduled 9 days from now. Time is going so fast! We got in all the materials to decorate, but unfortunately I thought I’d be able to find little drink umbrellas in the store to make this cute “shower” wreath and they were nowhere to be found. We literally went to 4 stores. Oh well…some day you will be mine cute umbrella wreath.

What we did do is make an owl and rainbow baby mobile and a cute little owl family. Take a look.

I made the rainbow mobile by covering the inside of an embroidery hoop with embroidery floss in the colors of the rainbow. This was SO easy and really inexpensive. Then I colored this pattern in paint and printed out the little owls on white, thick scrapbook paper. I like that this is a decorative theme piece that can also be used later in a very functional way.

I got the idea to make a little owl family from Basic Grey. Instead of using an oatmeal canister, I used some empty toilet paper rolls. We’re planning to make a little baby owl to complete the family just as soon as I have another toilet paper roll. For the eyes I had Josh cut small circles of tissue paper that we crinkled around hole puncher scraps. A definite plus for making these smaller owls—three sheets of scrapbook paper make 3 owls instead of 1. (No idea why this picture looks stretched…)

Some other notes…I mentioned that the invites came in. Check them out! I specially ordered them from Zazzle. I just love Zazzle because they let you customize everything. Obviously I added the rainbow and the rainbow text to the original design. I just love it.

The invites aren’t actually blurred on the bottom, I just realized it’s probably not the best idea to be putting our home address on the web.

One final note, I bought these little guys at Michael’s today intending to put them in the shower wreath. Since the wreath is nixed do you have any suggestions?

I thought I was fat

As a woman, I've always placed a lot of value into what I weigh and how I look. In the past few years especially I've been doing my best to move away from that, to focus on being healthy and feeling good, but those thoughts creep up for sure. It's my 6 week check in and I've lost 4 more pounds, so basically I still have 18 pounds to go. I started out these 6 weeks by going to the gym and only drinking water, but after week 2 Eli got sick for 2 weeks, then Anias got sick for 2 (make that 5...) weeks, then I got sick for 2 weeks, then Anias got an ear infection and would NOT sleep. He wouldn't fall asleep for 2 hours past bedtime and would wake up for hours. He's actually still doing this and he's still sick. Thursday he had a 101 fever so I took him in to the urgent care and his ear infection in his right ear did not go away. They put him on Augmentin and it just destroys his tummy. Fit for a Princess

I know this is kind of bad, but I’m ready for summer to be over. I know, I know. I’m working on being content in the present, but I honestly can’t wait to see my family again (rocking some boots and sweaters wouldn’t be so bad either). I’m off to Denver in September and I’ll be in my hometown in Wyoming for Thanksgiving. I only get to see the family every 3 or 4 months so every time it’s like a special treat. They’re so fun! Speaking of which…I was talking to my sister Tiffany about throwing a birthday party for her daughter (my niece), Kali, while I’m home since Kali’s a November baby. Tiff was down for it, but she also wanted some help in re-decorating Kali’s room and I can’t be any more excited. The idea for the very whimsical reno is to have a tree with some tangible flowers and branches. A dress-up station is also a must. We made it! And still no baby

The first 35 weeks I prayed Anias would stay put. I may have prayed a little too hard! Yesterday was Anias' due date. At this point Eli had already made his appearance. Anias is his own little man. We had a couple of days this past week where I was sure he was on his way, one in particular when I was having contractions every 10-15 minutes after steadily building all day. Alas, it didn't happen. I've been praying that he comes before our scheduled induction Sunday, but trusting in whatever happens. Our doula was discouraging induction since I haven't had any progress and it is typically harder on your body to be induced. However, I need my parents' help and they leave the 27th. I really want to take advantage of help while I transition from being mom of one to mom of two. I had a rough time emotionally when Eli came, and I know that's natural, but I still want to use my support system as much as possible and I'm so thankful they are here to help. Our doc
