Happy New Year!

Heads up- I wrote this yesterday but was a good girl and didn’t finish it until I finished my work! * What a day! We just got home, 29 hours later than anticipated. Our flight got cancelled, Eli got an ear/eye infection, we went straight from the airport to the Urgicare, and it just wasn’t as planned. A very little amount of sleep and a lot of coffee got me through the past 48 hours. But- if that’s all I have to complain about then I’ve got it pretty good. We had family to sit with us while we waited during our 6 hour delay from Riverton, we were able to see a pediatrician on New Year’s Eve, my mother-in-law got our pups from boarding and brought them to our house so we didn’t have to make an extra trip, our pharmacy is 24/7. Hey- not bad. I’ve got so much to do- 40 more pictures to edit and get out by tomorrow , three business blogs, follow-ups with two clients , editing pictures from my Pearls and Poinsettia’s party and my sister’s family photo shoot, invitations to get out ,...

Oh Christmas Tree

It’s about time for CHRISTMAS VACATION! Woot Woot! I can NOT wait to see my family. Eli’s already had one of his three Christmases, but it won’t feel real until the calendar reads 25 December. So, before we do his recap, here’s a little about our week. On the sleeping front- we are trying out a little mash up or tips and tricks. Thinking from purely a learning perspective, I think Eli is waking often because he’s getting lots and lots of positive reinforcement in the forms of rocking, singing, nursing, snuggling, etc. So here’s our game plan- first we play detective. At first and second wake up we make sure he’s not in pain, that he’s not gassy, that he doesn’t need a diaper change, and that he’s not hungry. After that if he wakes we’re sort of doing the pick up- put down method and decreasing the positive reinforcement, so he’ll get rocked, then held, then patted and sung to etc. At last resort (after an hour) we let him cry it out for a max of 10 minutes then we start over. He’s al...

The cat is out of the bag

Well, I did it. I mean, I sort of did it. I put in my resignation. I have less than 2 weeks left and I’m done…almost done. Here’s what happened. I discussed resignation with my boss on the 12th of September, but she was going on vacation so I didn’t make it official until the 22nd. Then there was the back of forth of well, you can work part-time (not worth it, I’d be making $0 with our daycare fees), or you can work part-time at home (still, can’t really commit 20 hours a week without childcare) or maybe you can go PRN. Bingo. Yes! I jumped at that. I could turn it down if it was too much but at least have the option of making money. The thing is, they had to apply for a PRN position and they haven’t even approved of filling my current position thus far. So- I’m going to work Monday and Wednesday mornings starting the 20th until they hire someone and they are fully trained, which can be anywhere from 1-3 months. BUT- as my last official day is the 17th I can cancel at any time. At leas...

Waiting with bells on

It’s almost 2014! I am sooo excited that we are 12 days away from our due date (and possibly our induction date, depending). I’m convinced that Eli will be here in a few days, or at least I was for the most part today. I had 4-5 Braxton Hicks today, and some of those were very close together- three just while I was at the grocery store. Plus, I’ve been nauseated since about 9pm last night, which I hear can be a sign. Maybe my convincing him is working! I’ve tried: foot massages, squatting, walking, taking stairs, eating spicy foods, taking Raspberry Tea Leaf Extract, taking Evening Primrose Oil, and taking baths. We also bought a fresh pineapple, but I haven’t tried that yet. I’ve been in quite a bit of pain today just walking around, but I am so excited that he might possibly be coming that it’s worth it. No promises, just me being hopeful. I’ve been off of work since the 23rd and we’ve been pretty busy ever since. Let me just tell you, I literally felt physical relief the moment I ...

Mele Kalikimaka

Good morning! Josh has had this song stuck in his head all week and rightfully so. It’s a breezy 57 degrees here on the second day of winter and it certainly doesn’t feel like Christmas is around the corner, but I’m so glad it is. I just love Christmas. I love giving people gifts. I literally think about it all year long and store ideas as I find them. I love baking, cooking Christmas Eve dinner, going to our church’s candlelight service, listening to Christmas music, and watching classic Christmas movies. I feel like this Christmas has been particularly special, being pregnant and thinking about what Mary must have gone through. How amazing is it that Christ was born for the very purpose of saving us? The love he commanded us to give one another is so palpable at this time of year. I challenge you to take a minute today to be mindful of this love, because it is all around you, you just have to look.  Yesterday we ran out to run a few errands (you know my Christmas shopping has...

So this is Christmas

Well, this week has been full of both highs and lows. On the plus side, I was approved to start taking leave as of the 23rd. Woot woot! That means I only have 6 business days left. Now, on the other side, I asked to start leave on the 23rd because they make us take 40 hours of PTO before our FMLA starts…and apparently the 24th-25th are not ‘regular’ business days. So, lucky me, I get to take 58 hours of PTO…which I don’t have. Not ideal, but I guess it is what it is. Friday at work I started having some pretty painful Braxton Hicks that lasted a little under 2 hours. I was sort of scared, but also excited. It definitely made me think about how real this is becoming. Baby boy should be here in less than a month. Crazy! It also made me go into overdrive in getting the house ready. I cleaned the oven and cabinets and scrubbed the bathrooms on my hands and knees this weekend. I definitely am not as lax about leaving stuff around. In the event that Eli comes early, I don’t want to come ho...
