John Hancock

Today I spent some time sending Natasha (my bride) some ideas for a cool guest book. We’re definitely working on a tight budget, but there are so many good, easy, financially satisfying ideas out there. Let me show you what I mean.
I love the idea of having a custom couple portrait commissioned. How cool would it be to have your guests sign the background of these cool items? The drawing is to die for, but the silhouette is so sweet too! I almost forgot about this laser cut silhouette. Sigh- gorgeous. Decisions, decisions. Oh but wait! Check out these other ideas before you commit.

Avid reader? Into music? Want a memorable art piece of your wedding city? So you’re a bookworm. How about having a custom blank book made with your names and wedding date? Having guests write notes to you on library cards would be cute too. Or- you could set out vintage (if possible) editions of you and your groom’s favorite books and have the guests sign in the margins.

Oh so you’re more into music than books? No worries. Have a custom LP made. Sooo budget friendly! Josh and I have tons of old, useless LP’s laying around. All we would  need to do is custom make the label (easy enough) and then frame the LPs. Perfection. I’m totally hoping Natasha picks this because her husband is a musician. Another fun thing would be to have your first dance song’s sheet music framed. The guests could write between the lines. How sweet.  Anyhow, if you’re more into commemorating the day with an art piece, try getting a poster of your wedding city. This would be especially fun if you were to have a destination wedding.

Other ideas- get a large wooden letter representing your new last name from your local craft store. Paint it and have guests sign. Whala. Gorgeous. You could also have them write advice/well wishes on beautiful note cards. there are inspired by France. Since a Parisian vintage wedding these could totally work!

Having a photo book made of your old photographs or engagement photos for guests to sign seems to be a fun trend that’s catching on. Think of how much you love your current photo albums. How much more would you love them if they had advice from the people you love most in the world? Other trends I adore- these cute thumb print balloons and wedding trees (with leafs the perfect size for signing).

Wishing trees are so cute too! Josh and I had our guests sign polaroid's of themselves and hung them in a frame (picture is from our wedding). Any way you go, these guest books/alternative guests books are great memory makers.

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall

First of all….Can you name the seven dwarfs? Just try it. Kills me every time.Okay moving on. Of course today’s party I’m working on a Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs themed party. I think I would start by setting up a little “forest” for the kids to walk through on the way in- complete with either stuffed or cardboard cut-out animal bunnies, chipmunks and deer. Little birds (most likely paper) would be hanging from the door frame. I’d be going for this kind of feeling (but with the princess not so sad let’s hope!) I would love to have a dress up station with a nod to “Mirror Mirror on the Wall”. Maybe something like this but more down to earth like this . Of course there would need to be apples galore. Candied apples? Carmel apples with a carmel apple decorating station? Rice crispy treat apples ? Donut hole mini apples ? Oh the options. (I also looove the Snow White cut-out in the mirror- adorable). Some sort of poison potion (with dry ice) would be super cute too. Maybe...

Dog Days of Summer

Well, my acrylic stamps didn't happen to work out on the cookies, but I found a purpose for them. I was practicing dipping Oreos in white chocolate when I got the bright idea to stamp them. I tried a few different methods, but my husband had the winning idea. Take a look. My methods- leaving the stamps in the white chocolate while it dried, using a greased stamp (gross, don’t do it), and using a stamp on nearly hardened white chocolate The winning method (eh hem- Josh’s method), putting the stamp in the white chocolate then freezing the cookie That man is a genius! I think they turned out super cute. I can’t wait to use this for a party. I’m kind of a sucker for my dogs so I was actually thinking about hosting a dog’s day out. If not, then I’ll probably keep this in my back pocket for Optimus’ birthday. Like I said- I’m a sucker for my dogs.

The Daniel Fast

When Josh and I moved back to Bellevue this summer we joined a new church, Zeal, which we really love. We've felt more challenged there to really engage, and twice a year the church as a whole focuses on 21 Days of Prayer. In January we fast during the 21 days, andre encouraged to give up something we feel hinders our focus (Instagram, sweets, etc.) We chose to do the Daniel Fast. The Daniel Fast is based on the following verses... “Test your servants for ten days; let us be given vegetables to eat and water to drink." Daniel 1:12   In those days, I, Daniel, had been mourning for three entire weeks. I ate no delicacies, no meat or wine entered my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, for the full three weeks" Daniel 10: 2-3 So basically, we've been eating a vegan, gluten-free, no sugar or sweetener-added foods for the past 11 days. We don't have fried foods either as they're 'rich', but we do have whole grains. We drink 100% juice and wat...
