All Hallow's Eve

I made it through the first full week being at home full time! Honestly, for me personally in my own circumstances (NOT a blanket statement for other people), it was easy! Sure there were nights when Eli woke up 4 times, but now I got to nap. I slowly took on chores throughout the week as well, so at nights and over the weekend Josh and I got more quality time with each other and with our precious baby boy. I’m really loving it. Plus, I had a few gigs this weekend so that kept me busy and feeling productive. You know I’m insanely type A, so of course we’re following a schedule I created.
schedule
I like it because it’s got everything I need to do in one place. Plus, if I don’t get to everything- like when Eli takes mini naps- then the chore just rolls over to the weekend which is frankly when we would do everything anyways. Anything that gets done lessens the burden.

This week we start smallgroup and are filling out the required documentation to start volunteering. I am most excited to volunteer. I want Eli to grow up to be an altruistic, compassionate, and connected person and I think that will help.

Speaking of my gig’s- here’s two of my favorite pictures from Nicholas’ first birthday documentation! I posted more on our facebook page. Next up- the Barclay’s Mini.

I hope you all had a fabulous Halloween. I tried to be the poor man’s princess Leia, but my hair was not having it, so I went a Wednesday Addams instead. Josh and I responded to the holiday appropriately (like children). We had little smokies, cheese, and popcorn for “dinner” and then had mint brownies to top it off. Mmmm mmmm mmm. Then we watched the Munsters and Buffy, which Josh has never seen (gasp!). Ah- I love bad 90’s TV. I think I’m going to start watching the whole series a la Netflix as we got rid of cable.

What we Bought: Eli’s got another tooth coming in so more infant Advil! He also discovered magnets so I got him this alphabet set from Babies R Us.
Most Awkward Moment: Eli figured out how to open the dog cages…and he crawled into Kito’s to pay him a visit!
Best Moment: Finally getting to nap
Useless purchases: This oven lock. Eli was playing with it (when the oven wasn’t in use), and it popped right off.
Invaluable purchases: Our stair gate. As I’ve mentioned before, he’s obsessed and he’s fast!

Last week I learned how to crawl up the stairs, but was pretty uninterested unless one of my parents ascended them in my presence. This week, however, I learned that Optimus will follow me, so I can and should crawl up them at any time. When I wake up I crawl to the door of Optimus and Kito’s room and bang on the door until mom lets me in. She’s silly if she thinks I’m going to leave my buddies locked up. I spent all week at home with mommy. It was so much fun. We made daddy a thank-you card for working so hard, went to the park, and took lots of nice walks before it got too cold. I was an Ewok for Halloween while Optimus was Darth Vader and Kito was Yoda. I was not very interested in wearing the Ewok hood, but the fuzzy belly was so soft I didn’t mind wearing that. I got my very first balloon on Halloween while mom was shopping at Kroger. It was pretty much the best thing ever. I started standing a bit on my own and my favorite toy is the vacuum.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Dog Days of Summer

Well, my acrylic stamps didn't happen to work out on the cookies, but I found a purpose for them. I was practicing dipping Oreos in white chocolate when I got the bright idea to stamp them. I tried a few different methods, but my husband had the winning idea. Take a look. My methods- leaving the stamps in the white chocolate while it dried, using a greased stamp (gross, don’t do it), and using a stamp on nearly hardened white chocolate The winning method (eh hem- Josh’s method), putting the stamp in the white chocolate then freezing the cookie That man is a genius! I think they turned out super cute. I can’t wait to use this for a party. I’m kind of a sucker for my dogs so I was actually thinking about hosting a dog’s day out. If not, then I’ll probably keep this in my back pocket for Optimus’ birthday. Like I said- I’m a sucker for my dogs.

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall

First of all….Can you name the seven dwarfs? Just try it. Kills me every time.Okay moving on. Of course today’s party I’m working on a Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs themed party. I think I would start by setting up a little “forest” for the kids to walk through on the way in- complete with either stuffed or cardboard cut-out animal bunnies, chipmunks and deer. Little birds (most likely paper) would be hanging from the door frame. I’d be going for this kind of feeling (but with the princess not so sad let’s hope!) I would love to have a dress up station with a nod to “Mirror Mirror on the Wall”. Maybe something like this but more down to earth like this . Of course there would need to be apples galore. Candied apples? Carmel apples with a carmel apple decorating station? Rice crispy treat apples ? Donut hole mini apples ? Oh the options. (I also looove the Snow White cut-out in the mirror- adorable). Some sort of poison potion (with dry ice) would be super cute too. Maybe...

The Daniel Fast

When Josh and I moved back to Bellevue this summer we joined a new church, Zeal, which we really love. We've felt more challenged there to really engage, and twice a year the church as a whole focuses on 21 Days of Prayer. In January we fast during the 21 days, andre encouraged to give up something we feel hinders our focus (Instagram, sweets, etc.) We chose to do the Daniel Fast. The Daniel Fast is based on the following verses... “Test your servants for ten days; let us be given vegetables to eat and water to drink." Daniel 1:12   In those days, I, Daniel, had been mourning for three entire weeks. I ate no delicacies, no meat or wine entered my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, for the full three weeks" Daniel 10: 2-3 So basically, we've been eating a vegan, gluten-free, no sugar or sweetener-added foods for the past 11 days. We don't have fried foods either as they're 'rich', but we do have whole grains. We drink 100% juice and wat...
