Well, I did it. I mean, I sort of did it. I put in my resignation. I have less than 2 weeks left and I’m done…almost done. Here’s what happened. I discussed resignation with my boss on the 12th of September, but she was going on vacation so I didn’t make it official until the 22nd. Then there was the back of forth of well, you can work part-time (not worth it, I’d be making $0 with our daycare fees), or you can work part-time at home (still, can’t really commit 20 hours a week without childcare) or maybe you can go PRN. Bingo. Yes! I jumped at that. I could turn it down if it was too much but at least have the option of making money. The thing is, they had to apply for a PRN position and they haven’t even approved of filling my current position thus far. So- I’m going to work Monday and Wednesday mornings starting the 20th until they hire someone and they are fully trained, which can be anywhere from 1-3 months. BUT- as my last official day is the 17th I can cancel at any time. At least I will only be away from my baby for 9 hours a week, not 46-47 hours a week. I’m pretty happy with the compromise! Now to pursue some other ventures that hopefully I can announce within the month!
Another thing I did? I made it 5 days without Josh. Goodness. That is not something I want to do again, but it could’ve been worse. Eli slept about 4 hours a night for the first 3 nights, but then the last night he finally settled into our new norm. He was HAPPY to see his daddy! Optimus did a good job comforting him when dad was gone, but no one replaces dada.
What we bought: Eli a new CAT toy. He’s started pushing things around so I thought it was time for him to get a motor vehicle. Two new Dr. Seuss books and a lovey with some of that silky edging. Josh and I both remember being kids and being comforted by that faux silk. Eli was more interested in chewing the attached giraffe and throwing the lovey around.
Useless purchases: Before we got pregnant I threw a baby shower for my friend Nicole and I got her this cute little rubber ducky that told you if the water was too hot for baby, which I thought was ingenious. It’s not. It says it’s “hot” when it’s actually pretty cold. I mean, in the early days when I believed this duck new better than I did Eli once shivered his bum in the tub. Skip it.
Best moment: For me- getting 6 hours of uninterrupted sleep. For Josh- getting to wake up in the middle of the night after 5 full days of not seeing his precious little son.
How my life has changed: I have to say things like “We don’t eat dog food” and “we sit in the bath” or how a bout “we don’t touch the toilet” several times a day.
I got a Groupon for Minted cards and they’re having early bird specials until tomorrow which of course means our Christmas card pictures are done! Here are some of the photos that didn’t make the cut.
Eli: Week 38

I finally figured out how to get down from standing. I learned how to plank so I don't have to sit, which is especially handy in the bathtub and when my parents try to put me in my car seat. I also started gnawing on my crib. I danced for the first time when mom was playing WayFM. Sometimes I pull out other babies hair at day care. I can’t help but have fun with that. I am super fast at crawling and I got my little hands the dog food and the dog bowl. Mom was unimpressed, but it’s okay. I also figured out my walker and that seemed to make her happier. I like when mom fake sneeze- it makes me laugh and laugh.I got to spend almost every night with my mommy while my dad was out of town, but I’m still happy dad is back in town.
Have a great week!
