No one puts baby in the corner

So my sister-in-law and brother are having their third child this May and when we go visit I’m going to do a little photo shoot with props and everything. I’m so super excited to meet the little one and I’m also excited to see if my photography has improved at all. Since my last baby-shoot I’ve gained a new camera, 4 new lenses, a reflector, and new photo editing software. I’ve also read up on some tutorials (which explains a lot, like how you fit a baby into a little bucket WITH weights and padding) so I’m hoping I get at least a few good shots. I think the dogs are sick of me being in their face and frankly I could use more shots of people.

Have I mentioned it’s a girl? I can’t wait to dress her up! It will be so so sweet. Here’s some (yes, only some) of the props I’ve found that I just love.

She wants to do a big bow shot with baby and daddy.  For that, I love this white bow, but this green double-layer bow has that extra texture (I would probably do a different color). Then again you can’t really go wrong with pink or pink-polka dots. I do know that we are for-sure getting this huge flower headband. I seriously love it and so does Lacey.

Other accessories I love? Oh my goodness these sweet little ballerina slippers! Oh and this tutu-headband set ahhhhmazing. And actually I really love these little rompers…and these diaper covers….and these little knit hats (you can pick the flower colors).

I’ve sent all the ideas out to my sister-in-law so we’ll see what she likes! I tell you, I may just have to get her the tutu set myself that is so sweet. I could just melt.

I also am going to invest in a poser beanbag, colored cheesecloth wraps (seen below), and will use a few small(ish) pieces of fabric for backgrounds and such.

I’m going all out! But it will be totally worth it if it all turns out halfway decent.

So for Lent I’ve give up…..facebook. I am still posting these blogs to facebook directly from my blog itself (hey my mom wouldn't be able to find it otherwise), but I haven’t logged on at all to see feedback, see what people are doing, etc.  A client of mine was saying how she gave it up for two months and it changed her life. I have noticed that I feel like I have more free time and I’m feeling more creative. Alternatively, I feel more disconnected. It really made me notice how little one-to-one contact I have with people, but that realization has definitely motivated me to go out and do more. It’s been a good choice for me for Lent because it’s not really self-serving (like giving up carbs and having the benefit of losing weight), but it’s highlighted where I’m spending my time and has given me more time to focus on my relationship with God. What did you give up, if anything?

Well, I’m off. Josh is vacuuming the house (and Optimus haha, He’s shedding) so I better pitch in.

Have a great day!

I thought I was fat

As a woman, I've always placed a lot of value into what I weigh and how I look. In the past few years especially I've been doing my best to move away from that, to focus on being healthy and feeling good, but those thoughts creep up for sure. It's my 6 week check in and I've lost 4 more pounds, so basically I still have 18 pounds to go. I started out these 6 weeks by going to the gym and only drinking water, but after week 2 Eli got sick for 2 weeks, then Anias got sick for 2 (make that 5...) weeks, then I got sick for 2 weeks, then Anias got an ear infection and would NOT sleep. He wouldn't fall asleep for 2 hours past bedtime and would wake up for hours. He's actually still doing this and he's still sick. Thursday he had a 101 fever so I took him in to the urgent care and his ear infection in his right ear did not go away. They put him on Augmentin and it just destroys his tummy. He actually vomited 3 times Friday on top of it all. I'm not used to thi...

We made it! And still no baby

The first 35 weeks I prayed Anias would stay put. I may have prayed a little too hard! Yesterday was Anias' due date. At this point Eli had already made his appearance. Anias is his own little man. We had a couple of days this past week where I was sure he was on his way, one in particular when I was having contractions every 10-15 minutes after steadily building all day. Alas, it didn't happen. I've been praying that he comes before our scheduled induction Sunday, but trusting in whatever happens. Our doula was discouraging induction since I haven't had any progress and it is typically harder on your body to be induced. However, I need my parents' help and they leave the 27th. I really want to take advantage of help while I transition from being mom of one to mom of two. I had a rough time emotionally when Eli came, and I know that's natural, but I still want to use my support system as much as possible and I'm so thankful they are here to help. Our doc...

Fit for a Princess

I know this is kind of bad, but I’m ready for summer to be over. I know, I know. I’m working on being content in the present, but I honestly can’t wait to see my family again (rocking some boots and sweaters wouldn’t be so bad either). I’m off to Denver in September and I’ll be in my hometown in Wyoming for Thanksgiving. I only get to see the family every 3 or 4 months so every time it’s like a special treat. They’re so fun! Speaking of which…I was talking to my sister Tiffany about throwing a birthday party for her daughter (my niece), Kali, while I’m home since Kali’s a November baby. Tiff was down for it, but she also wanted some help in re-decorating Kali’s room  and I can’t be any more excited. The idea for the very whimsical reno is to have a tree with some tangible flowers and branches. A dress-up station is also a must. Here’s some inspiration I’ve come across so far… Top to bottom, left to right: Lumme Designs Bed , Fairy Tale Bedroom found at Lyring , Linde Browning D...
