Oh my goodness today has been such a joy so far! I slept a solid 10 hours (hallelujah! I generally have crazy bouts of insomnia), went to church, and have spent the day relaxing with my husband. Yesterday was the culmination of all my planning and Natasha’s hard work. I can’t say that I’m sad it’s over. I had tons of fun but man it’s much more stressful planning another person’s wedding. I wanted her to have her dream wedding and with that desire I put a lot of pressure on myself. She decided to have the bridesmaids and I do the bouquets, and I really loved how they turned out. At the time though I was sweating it. I was kicking myself over every little thing. Josh had to reassure me when asking various questions like “Is it pink enough? Is it round and even enough? Is it full enough? Would you like it? Does it look fresh enough?” By the end of the night I didn’t take one picture and I never wanted to see a rose again, but today is a different story. With the leftover roses I made this sweet little bouquet- just to give you all an idea of how they turned out. We used all the white roses and Vendela roses in the actual bouquets so they aren’t seen here.(Left- the directions to the reception Josh helped me hand-roll and tie with nude colored ribbon and lace)
Today I made these Reese’s Pieces peanut butter cookies. They’re soooo addicting and such a great way to get rid of that leftover Halloween candy. I’d probably also choose them over these Maple Bars. I had such high hopes for these! I really have been homesick lately and maple bars are a staple of trips to the local grocery store. They were quite good warm, but I have such a hard time getting a good raise going in TN, which makes the bars really dense (just like my bread and everything else I use yeast in). Oh well, I really didn’t need those extra carbs anyhow
Halloween was all about the food too. Josh made these Halloween meat pies while I made these candy-corn inspired rice crispy treats (for the record use 2 jumbo marshmallows not 6 when making them), pumpkin seeds, and Halloween Chex mix. We watched The Exorcist and handed out candy to the handful of kids who popped by, but my highlight was probably watching Optimus trying to eat Chikito’s banana costume. As for the pumpkin carving, I think Josh beat me again. His Darth Vader was a hit with the trick-or-treaters.
Lastly- We’re still working on the house. I’m really wanting to paint our bedroom and tile our bathroom sometime within the next few months, but Josh did put up this killer light in our half bath. Originally there was only one light near the mirror, which left you sitting in the dark. He had to do some serious finagling to get it to work, but the end result is really pretty.
So what’s next? Today I’m going to just hang out! That will be nice. Coming up- I have Kali’s Tinkerbell inspired birthday party (My soon to be 6 year old niece), Fall decorating, Thanksgiving, and maybe a November party depending on our friends’ schedules. Hopefully I’ll have more time to blog. Enjoy your weekend!!
We did encounter a few hiccups. The steel (gorgeous) lighters I ordered didn’t come with butane so we ran to the gas station to buy some and fill-er up. However, by the time we lit 15 candles and tested it several times, the butane was stretched thin leaving Natasha clicking away on a weak lighter. There were various other little things that happened, but at the end of the day they had such a touching, lovely day and they are SO happy in love and that’s all that matters. No one’s going to think back on the day and remember the lighter, they’re going to remember Bart and Natasha’s love and commitment.
That, my dears, is the end of the wedding talk. Let’s talk food.
