Cookie Monster

Just the other day I was talking to my friend Jayci (love you!) and the inevitable question came up, “What have you been up to?” Of course I said “nothing much” because my instant thought was “I bought some sheets!”, which I think might have been a sadder response. I have been incredibly boring. No wreath hangs on my front door, no party is being planned, no new pictures of my puppies. Nope, I’ve been running errands, doing laundry, and trying to find out where that smell is coming from (Optimus, of course). Hence, the bare blog.

I did make some kicking gingerbread cookies which are officially my favorite. They were also the favorites of the recipients of my Christmas cookies so I highly encourage you to try them. I added about 1/4 tsp of nutmeg, cause hey, who doesn’t like spice?  I think the other winner was my peanut butter reindeer cookies. If not for taste, then at least for cuteness. I was too cheap to buy mini brown M&M’s, hence the demonic looking reindeer in the back. And that top cookie on the right is a pinwheel sugar cookie. Frankly, I thought they needed some frosting, but they were too cute to not put in the bag.

Other than that we made a quick trip to NY, NY which was actually really beautiful and safe. Disregarding the cold and the hordes of people I highly approve. Central Park is seriously one of my favorite places. Here’s some of my fave photos from the trip.

Isn’t he adorable? You should’ve seen hit light up when he opened his iPad for Christmas. Now we’re home and settling back into our normal schedules. I didn’t make a New Year’s resolution, but I do have a list of things I’d like to do this year like visiting Evin’s Mill and taking an ASL class from Hearing Bridges, since my niece is so fluent in it and I have no idea what she’s signing to me. I think it’d be hilarious to surprise her by signing to her all casually when I see her next. I have a running list that I add to whenever I run across something interesting I’d like to do. For me this is a lot less daunting that a “resolution”, even if the difference is just in the name itself.

We bought some paint and accessories for the house so hopefully I’ll be adding those details later in the week. Oh, and I haven’t added my recipes for stuffing and mushroom-free green bean casserole. I’ve better get on it, but for now I’m going to go see Les Miserables.

I guess I should just be glad I’m not young anymore, right Frank? Hahaha this song is so me…before they’re all sad they’re old.

Enjoy your weekend!!

I thought I was fat

As a woman, I've always placed a lot of value into what I weigh and how I look. In the past few years especially I've been doing my best to move away from that, to focus on being healthy and feeling good, but those thoughts creep up for sure. It's my 6 week check in and I've lost 4 more pounds, so basically I still have 18 pounds to go. I started out these 6 weeks by going to the gym and only drinking water, but after week 2 Eli got sick for 2 weeks, then Anias got sick for 2 (make that 5...) weeks, then I got sick for 2 weeks, then Anias got an ear infection and would NOT sleep. He wouldn't fall asleep for 2 hours past bedtime and would wake up for hours. He's actually still doing this and he's still sick. Thursday he had a 101 fever so I took him in to the urgent care and his ear infection in his right ear did not go away. They put him on Augmentin and it just destroys his tummy. He actually vomited 3 times Friday on top of it all. I'm not used to thi...

We made it! And still no baby

The first 35 weeks I prayed Anias would stay put. I may have prayed a little too hard! Yesterday was Anias' due date. At this point Eli had already made his appearance. Anias is his own little man. We had a couple of days this past week where I was sure he was on his way, one in particular when I was having contractions every 10-15 minutes after steadily building all day. Alas, it didn't happen. I've been praying that he comes before our scheduled induction Sunday, but trusting in whatever happens. Our doula was discouraging induction since I haven't had any progress and it is typically harder on your body to be induced. However, I need my parents' help and they leave the 27th. I really want to take advantage of help while I transition from being mom of one to mom of two. I had a rough time emotionally when Eli came, and I know that's natural, but I still want to use my support system as much as possible and I'm so thankful they are here to help. Our doc...

Fit for a Princess

I know this is kind of bad, but I’m ready for summer to be over. I know, I know. I’m working on being content in the present, but I honestly can’t wait to see my family again (rocking some boots and sweaters wouldn’t be so bad either). I’m off to Denver in September and I’ll be in my hometown in Wyoming for Thanksgiving. I only get to see the family every 3 or 4 months so every time it’s like a special treat. They’re so fun! Speaking of which…I was talking to my sister Tiffany about throwing a birthday party for her daughter (my niece), Kali, while I’m home since Kali’s a November baby. Tiff was down for it, but she also wanted some help in re-decorating Kali’s room  and I can’t be any more excited. The idea for the very whimsical reno is to have a tree with some tangible flowers and branches. A dress-up station is also a must. Here’s some inspiration I’ve come across so far… Top to bottom, left to right: Lumme Designs Bed , Fairy Tale Bedroom found at Lyring , Linde Browning D...
