Fall Back

Oh my goodness today has been such a joy so far! I slept a solid 10 hours (hallelujah! I generally have crazy bouts of insomnia), went to church, and have spent the day relaxing with my husband. Yesterday was the culmination of all my planning and Natasha’s hard work. I can’t say that I’m sad it’s over. I had tons of fun but man it’s much more stressful planning another person’s wedding. I wanted her to have her dream wedding and with that desire I put a lot of pressure on myself. She decided to have the bridesmaids and I do the bouquets, and I really loved how they turned out. At the time though I was sweating it. I was kicking myself over every little thing. Josh had to reassure me when asking various questions like “Is it pink enough? Is it round and even enough? Is it full enough? Would you like it? Does it look fresh enough?” By the end of the night I didn’t take one picture and I never wanted to see a rose again, but today is a different story. With the leftover roses I made this sweet little bouquet- just to give you all an idea of how they turned out. We used all the white roses and Vendela roses in the actual bouquets so they aren’t seen here.IMG_33112IMG_3313IMG_3250(Left- the directions to the reception Josh helped me hand-roll and tie with nude colored ribbon and lace)
We did encounter a few hiccups. The steel (gorgeous) lighters I ordered didn’t come with butane so we ran to the gas station to buy some and fill-er up. However, by the time we lit 15 candles and tested it several times, the butane was stretched thin leaving Natasha clicking away on a weak lighter. There were various other little things that happened, but at the end of the day they had such a touching, lovely day and they are SO happy in love and that’s all that matters. No one’s going to think back on the day and remember the lighter, they’re going to remember Bart and Natasha’s love and commitment.

That, my dears, is the end of the wedding talk. Let’s talk food.

Today I made these Reese’s Pieces peanut butter cookies. They’re soooo addicting and such a great way to get rid of that leftover Halloween candy. I’d probably also choose them over these Maple Bars. I had such high hopes for these! I really have been homesick lately and maple bars are a staple of trips to the local grocery store. They were quite good warm, but I have such a hard time getting a good raise going in TN, which makes the bars really dense (just like my bread and everything else I use yeast in). Oh well, I really didn’t need those extra carbs anyhow

Halloween was all about the food too. Josh made these Halloween meat pies while I made these candy-corn inspired rice crispy treats (for the record use 2 jumbo marshmallows not 6 when making them), pumpkin seeds, and Halloween Chex mix. We watched The Exorcist and handed out candy to the handful of kids who popped by, but my highlight was probably watching Optimus trying to eat Chikito’s banana costume. As for the pumpkin carving, I think Josh beat me again. His Darth Vader was a hit with the trick-or-treaters.

IMG_3323Lastly- We’re still working on the house. I’m really wanting to paint our bedroom and tile our bathroom sometime within the next few months, but Josh did put up this killer light in our half bath. Originally there was only one light near the mirror, which left you sitting in the dark. He had to do some serious finagling to get it to work, but the end result is really pretty.

So what’s next? Today I’m going to just hang out! That will be nice. Coming up- I have Kali’s Tinkerbell inspired birthday party (My soon to be 6 year old niece), Fall decorating, Thanksgiving, and maybe a November party depending on our friends’ schedules. Hopefully I’ll have more time to blog. Enjoy your weekend!!

The Velveteen Rabbit

We’re at week 32! Only 8 more weeks to go. Yesterday we had our final baby shower and it was just adorable. My in-laws threw us a Velveteen Rabbit themed shower. Take a look at these pictures my sister-in-law took of all the sweet decorations. Isn’t it just adorable? I was so sad to tear down the diaper cake, but that wreath is going to go on his nursery door I’m sure. Eli is so lucky to have a crafty grandmother. Not only did she decorate the shower, but she also made him a ton of personalized burp cloths, onesies, pants, blankets, and bibs. Aren’t they soooo cute? I’m thinking about changing his going home outfit to be his little lion onesie she made him with his name embroidered on it. We’ll have to see! Oh and that bear backpack! Isn’t it precious? I can’t wait to pack it up for him to go out to his Mimi’s. He’ll just love it.                     Now for his week 32 check in… Weight Gain:   29 lbs in 32 weeks. Crazy! I did gain 5 of those lbs wh

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy

I’m so depressed! The Halloween party we were planning was cancelled (yea-that means we cancelled it). I LOVE love love Halloween, but I’m okay with a low-key night since many of our friends are going to be out of town the weekend we had planned to throw the party. Last year Josh and I spent time handing out candy to neighbor kids and watching the shining. Of course I decorated like crazy, but this year I think I’ll probably keep the decorating outdoors and use the food to celebrate the occasion. Here’s what I had planned food-wise for the Halloween Party. For (eh-hem, real food) snacks.         Trick or Treat Turnovers                                                       Pizza Mummies For crunching and munching on                   Scarecrow Crunch For dessert       Candy Corn Rice Krispies                        Monster Mash Pudding                  Pretzel and Brownie Skeletons I’ll probably let Josh pick out what I make for the occasion since all of it looks SO good

Ready Set, Have You Met...

In the event you don't know, the end of that lyric is "Robocar Poli" which has been playing often in this house lately. Anias and Eli both love it, and with the spiders, ticks, rain, and overall grouchiness of a sleep deprived almost 2 year old I'm just going to roll with it. Josh and I have been busy trying to fix up the house, but unlike those before and after seemingly instant photos it's taking over a month to just finish what we've already started, but we're getting closer! We're taking a long weekend together without the kids this week up in Chicago and I'm excited! It will be nice to explore a new place and see one of my favorite all-time bands: Beach House. Anias: 23 Months I say new words like ...Poli (requesting the show Robocar Poli), mowing, kick it, mint, bike, night night, eat it, cereal, battery, sheep, chick, here you go Mama My favorite food is ...macaroni, but I also like hamburgers and won't hardly have a m
