30 Day Photo Challenge: Week 3 + Kali’s Tinkerbell Party

Y’all- I’m about to skip over a few days in this week’s photo challenge. Yep- you heard it. I’m going to skip long exposure and “technology” for a bit and bring it back in a week or two. That’s okay though right because 1) there’s more than 28 days in a 30 day challenge so we’ll need extras for that last week and 2) I totally feel horrible. Day 15: Silhouette                                       Day 18: Shoes                                       Day 19: Orange                                   Day 20: Bokeh                                                          Day 21: A faceless portrait I took most of these photos while I was at home. Speaking of which….Kali’s party turned out to be pretty cute and fun! We did decorate with giant poster board flowers and followed through with the glittery sugar (eh hem- I would buy your own, much more effective), Rice Crispy wands, and mini cupcakes. Tiff even put our husbands to work making Tinkerbell fondant shoes for the cupcakes (an i

30 Day Photo Challenge- Week 2

This week’s challenge has been much harder! Just coordinating time with Josh has been tough since we’re at the finish line for getting ready to leave for Wyoming. He’s cleaning, I’m folding clothes. He’s changing oil- I’m making dinner. Story of my week. I was half tempted to use old pictures for the photo challenge but that wouldn’t be making a very honest effort now would it? Seriously though the sun sets before 5pm! Ridiculous. Anyhow, let’s see what we came up with this week… Day 8: A bad Habit Multiple bad habits in one picture! How lucky! Well, I 1) rarely make the bed 2) let Optimus jump on the bed, which tears the sheets, and 3) spoil Optimus (maybe number 4 should be I take too many photos of Optimus but look at that face!) Day 9: Someone I love TWO photos of my someone I love. Isn’t he just so handsome when he’s thinking? He’s handsome always really. Day 10: A childhood memory Decorating cookies anyone? I know- super boring. I had this great idea to take photos of

30 Day Photo Challenge: Week 1

This past week has been pretty jam-packed, but I did manage to work in another photo class and here’s the thing- I realize now that I know the basics. That doesn’t mean it’s coming very naturally to me, but I do want to keep getting better. With that in mind I’ve decided to take on the 30 day photo challenge - a challenge designed to help you become a better photographer and to photograph from a different perspective. It’s actually been really interesting. I never knew how fun it would be to photograph clouds. They say people rarely look up, and I guess that’s true. The film I took had about 10 photos of clouds and I liked them all a lot. I also have been sticking to my guns regarding the "style" I like. Josh has his own picks, but I'm not second guessing and choosing his likes over my own- which I think is a good thing. The worst challenge? Taking photos of myself. I feel so awkward! But I don’t know how I can expect to make other people feel comfortable in front of the

It’s all good

I hope y’all voted! The hubby and I are at home anxiously watching the polls. I feel like it’s going to be a long night! I just can’t go to sleep without knowing who our president is going to be. My sister Shiree (love you!) mentioned that she was running to Starbucks to keep herself going tonight and a peppermint hot chocolate sounded SO good. But alas, I’m lazy. Instead I rummaged through the cabinets and surfed the internet until I found an acceptable recipe. This is what I used! (Adapted from this recipe) 1/4 cup water 2 tbl unsweetened cocoa powder 2 tbl granulated sugar 1 1/2 cups milk 1/4 tsp peppermint extract 1. Combine the water, cocoa, and sugar in a microwave-safe cup and microwave for 30 seconds 2. Add the milk to the chocolate syrup and microwave for 1 1/2 minutes until hot. 3. Add the peppermint, stir, and enjoy It was pretty dang good! It could have used 2 tablespoons of coffee and a touch of whipped cream, but still delicious If you’re sitting at home in

Fall Back

Oh my goodness today has been such a joy so far! I slept a solid 10 hours (hallelujah! I generally have crazy bouts of insomnia), went to church, and have spent the day relaxing with my husband. Yesterday was the culmination of all my planning and Natasha’s hard work. I can’t say that I’m sad it’s over. I had tons of fun but man it’s much more stressful planning another person’s wedding. I wanted her to have her dream wedding and with that desire I put a lot of pressure on myself. She decided to have the bridesmaids and I do the bouquets, and I really loved how they turned out. At the time though I was sweating it. I was kicking myself over every little thing. Josh had to reassure me when asking various questions like “Is it pink enough? Is it round and even enough? Is it full enough? Would you like it? Does it look fresh enough?” By the end of the night I didn’t take one picture and I never wanted to see a rose again, but today is a different story. With the leftover roses I made thi
